• I’ve made a page for it, rather than a regular blog entry because I don’t want it to fade from view (until it’s sold). We listed our house on Monday with the Real Estate Agent who helped us buy it. It’s such a treasure — we don’t want to leave it behind, but as good as the Linden Lab relocation budget is — I don’t think it would actually cover picking up the house and moving it to San Francisco.

  • So, we’ve been madly purging in preparation for this move. It’s still quite difficult (though I’ll have a whole mess of computer equipment to offer up shortly. Blog readers get first dibs, though I suspect I’ll have to go to freecycle to get rid of it). Anyway, I came across a few grad school notes and papers, one notebook of which was full of various labs, tests and notes from my Perceptual Psychology class — relevant to virtual worlds, of course.

  • Whew. I’ve been holding my breath and biting my tongue on this for so long, it’s really cramped my blogging style. Finally, today I can write about it. I’m up-heaving our lives! During a long walk during the winter time, Carolyn and I took stock of our lives as we tend to do during long walks together. We found ourselves out in the cold, walking among the depressed (and depressing) houses of Altoona with our baby daughter strapped to us.

  • I wanted to jot down some quick notes as I play Second Life about the nature of online relationships. As I started to write, I felt like I needed to include a little back story. Writing this intro paragraph, I realize that already what follows is too long for a single blog post, and I’m not even out of the back story yet. That said, I’m not going to break it up further.

  • Today, I’m another year wiser, more mature, experienced and centered. I’m also another year heavier, achier, creakier and more forgetful. I’m never really sure what to make of birthdays any more. Somehow, I still have this expectation left over from childhood that they will be magical and wondrous in unimaginable ways. Needless to say, they end up being like most every other day, but for a scattering of presents, well wishes, and maybe a nice meal out.

  • I’ve been to the west coast twice in the past 5 years. Each time I’ve been out there, I’ve lost a grandmother. I’m all out of grandmothers. Indeed, Ruth was the last of my grandparents to die. What follows was sent to me by one of my uncles, titled “Ruth’s magical journey of magicalness.” While no life can be adequately expressed in text, especially in just a couple of pages of text, I find that this does give the reader a nice overview and glimpse into life of an extrodinary woman.

  • SFO

I’m in San Francisco tonight on business. It’s the first night in my daughter’s life that we’ve not slept in the same room. It feels a little odd to be this out of touch — the flight landed here after I hope both wife and daughter were well asleep. I’m in the “Dirty Harry” room of the Hotel Bijou. It’s kinda cool in a funky, downtown-y way. I don’t know if I’m exactly in the red light district, but I’m certainly not in the upscale neighborhood judging by the adult dvd mega stores, and the bars on the windows.

  • Sorry I’ve been so quiet recently. I actually have a few things to say, but have been having trouble focusing on this. Partly because of busy (baby still = handful, + clients, etc.), also because there’s some stuff going on that I can’t blog yet. I hate when that happens because I feel like it blocks up the rest of my creativity as well. Anyway, the only real reason for this entry is to mention that there are a bunch of new pictures up of the world’s cutest baby.

  • Sometimes, product packaging has it just right. Carolyn and I both like pistachios. But I like pistachio pudding, and Carolyn does not. I have a theory as to why — it’s the color. I ate (and liked) pistachio pudding as a kid. It was yummy pudding, it was green, and you know, there were nuts in it, but no big deal. I just thought “pistachio” was a flavor of pudding — sort of just a synonym for “green.
