OK, it’s not that I’m always the last to know things. But it seems like I don’t act very quickly on things that I do hear. (Recall being amazed at photo postage when I saw it — only 6 months (or more) after I first heard about it).

Well, it’s happened again. Pandora has been floating around in my periphery for some time now. It’s a “music discovery service” that I just “discovered”One of my favorite David Sedaris quotes concerns qualities he was looking for in a boyfriend — “He must not say he ‘discovered’ a restaurant that was right there in the phone book all along.” and I am amazed at how well it has worked for me in my starting trial. It asks you to start with one of your favorite artists or songs. I started with a group I’d been listening to recently (again), and like quite a bit — Everything but the Girl. And away it went. In the first 5 songs it played for me, I already owned 3 of them. Of the two I didn’t own, I’d never before heard of the groups. One of them, I rather liked — I rarely like music new music on the first listenWhich is why I so rarely ever particpated in WNRN’s “Rate @ Eight”. The other one? I loved it! I’m so astonished.

Now, I have very eclectic musical tastes, so no doubt, I’ll need to create different pandora “stations” to capture the appropriate range of my favorite types of music. Regardless, if you like to listen to your music online, and you’ve not yet checked out Pandora, do yourself a favor, and get over there.
