My current favorite mixed drink is the Irish Monk — at least the recipe found in the “Ultimate Bartender’s Guide”. It’s a simple drink, which is part of why I like it. Easy to mix means less time screwing around, and more time drinking.
2 oz. Jameson Irish Whiskey
2 oz. Frangelico
Pour Whiskey and Frangelico into glass filled with ice. Stir.
It goes down smooth with the Frangelico cutting the whiskey and giving its own nutty flavor to the drink. I’ve seen other recipes on the web for an Irish Monk, often involving some Bailey’s maybe even some coffee, so I have to be careful when ordering it out. If you happen to have the ingredients, try it some time and let me know what you think.
