The Story:

Our cat is (or at least was) insecure. Or maybe he had a bladder infection. Or maybe he just didn’t like us. Whatever the reason, he peed/marked just about every corner in the living room and dining room (as well as a few in the den). We tried all sorts of cleaners and techniques, nothing seemed to work, at lest not well enough to keep him from re-soiling the areas.

Once the cat moved out (with Carolyn up to Lancaster), we needed/wanted to replace the carpet and the pad, etc. But that would be expensive. We’d seen a place with a died (stained?) concrete slab, and we couldn’t believe it was really just the slab. It looked so cool and marbled.

So, rather than replace the carpet, we decided to pull it up and stain and score the concrete floor. I did this over the course of about a week back in 2002. At the time, I “blogged” about it through our small, elite, forum on delphi. I was just cleaning up some of the old stuff that had gathered in the web directory for my home page, and came across the pictures I’d taken. I thought it was time to recover my old floor journal from the delphi forums and publish it here. I’ve set the publishing dates to when they were originally published — except for this one. I didn’t actually start writing about it until day 2.

Most of what follows is directly copy-pasted in from the delphi forum. Enjoy.
